Palmer Raids Political Cartoon
The Palmer Raids were a series of attempts by the United States Department of Justice to find Communists or Socialists and arrest them. It was led by Attorney General Alexander Mitchell Palmer, who bombed many homes, as shown in the building in the back of the cartoon. Eventually, Palmer's own home was destroyed. The large man in the cartoon is Palmer, and the people in chains are the people (largely innocent) that Palmer arrested.
